7 Wineries To Try in DFW

May 26th, 2020 by

In Texas, every season is wine season. The beautiful weather makes Texas a prime state for vineyards that produce wines as bold as everything else that’s made here. While it may come as a surprise that the Lone Star State is the fifth-largest wine-producing state in the country, Texas is making a name for itself in this industry. If you’re looking for wine that keeps you coming back for more, look no further than our list of these must-visit wineries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Located on Prospect Avenue in Dallas, Times Ten Cellars offers wine that’s made with vines that were planted in the spring of 2004. This winery and wine bar is the perfect place for a night out with friends, a happy hour with coworkers, or to celebrate important life events like engagements and birthdays. At Times Ten, try red or white wines, cider, and prosecco either by the glass, by the bottle, or as part of a wine flight.

For the best all-around experience, order some of the food that Times Ten Cellars offers, like their Mediterranean chicken flatbread, Rob’s pimento cheese small plate, or something sweet like handmade truffles. You can check out their food and wine menus on their website or in person.

Hailstone Vineyards

The people at Hailstone Vineyards take their wine seriously, making sure to grow their vineyards in locations that will produce the best of each varietal they carry. They have a small-batch operation, which helps ensure that their customers get high-quality wine every time. It’s easy to see why everyone loves Hailstone — the atmosphere here is all about friendship and the important conversations you can have with those you love.

Try their sauvignon blanc, a wonderful wine with aromas of green apple, mango, and vanilla, or their chardonnay with fresh pineapple and honeysuckle aroma alongside a citrus finish. You can stop by their warehouse on Blystone Lane in Dallas or shop from their selection of wines online.

Eden Hill Winery and Vineyard

Just 40 minutes north of Dallas in Celina is Eden Hill Winery and Vineyard, an award-winning spot that uses 100% Texas-grown grapes in its premium wines. Eden Hill Winery displays Texas values as a family-owned business that puts quality at the forefront. In fact, their vineyard operates solely on rainwater that they’ve collected on-site.

Try their moscato giallo, a silver medal winner that combines the aromas of nectarines, apricots, and oranges, or the Aglianico Reserve, a dry red wine that won two gold medals at the 2018 Lone Star International Wine Competition. Stop by the tasting room and pair your wine with the Napa cheese plate, or book a tour in advance for some extra fun. You can also check out their menu online ahead of time to take advantage of weekend specials.

Sugar Ridge Winery

Sugar Ridge Winery is where you want to visit if you’re looking for something fun for everyone. With karaoke nights and live music events, experience a little something extra at Sugar Ridge. Their 15 different kinds of wine are produced in-house. Choose from a number of dry and sweet reds and whites, including the Lime, a white varietal with lime and coconut, and the Heritage, a dry red cabernet-merlot blend.

With locations in Ennis and Sanger and an online menu and shopping cart, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for with Sugar Ridge Winery.

It’s fitting that Delaney Vineyards is located in Grapevine, Texas. The owners of Delaney make sure that their wines are made only from Texas grapes, showing their passion and commitment to the state of Texas and their local community. The vineyard is on 120 acres of land, making it the largest in North Texas. Delaney has won 37 awards and offers 157 types of wine, including reds, whites, rose, and blends. You can even shop for a bottle online.

When you visit, order their muscat canelli, a semi-sweet white with flavors of pear and honey; the pinot noir, a light red with hints of strawberry and cherry; or their Texas Rose, a blend that tastes like fruit and honey. No matter the weather, you’ll find a wine you love at Delaney Vineyards. Delaney can even play host to your wedding reception or private event.

Cross Timbers Winery

Also located in Grapevine is Cross Timbers, a winery that operates out of the historic Brock Family farmhouse, which has been recognized as one of the oldest structures in Grapevine. At Cross Timbers, it doesn’t matter what sort of environment you’re looking for — they can meet all of your needs.

Have them host a private event, or get together with your friends for a couple of glasses in their tasting room. Here, you can try some local varietals while getting some wine education from the Cross Timbers staff. If the weather is beautiful, take advantage of their outdoor seating.

Cross Timbers offers red, white, blush, and sparkling wines. For a red, try the Grapevine Red with hints of strawberry, vanilla, and plum. If white is more your flavor, order the chenin blanc, featuring flavors of apple, melon, pear, vanilla, and honey. The Viv Mi Amore Blush can easily become a favorite with its hints of Granny Smith apples, tropical fruits, and citrus. Even if you think that sparkling wine isn’t your preference, you should still try the Stone Cold Sparkling Wine — it’s a favorite among employees and customers alike.

Messina Hof Winery and Resort

Do yourself a favor and make sure to visit Messina Hof Winery, which has locations in Bryan, Grapevine, and Fredericksburg. Producing wines for over 40 years, Messina Hof is all about the importance of family and tradition. It’s because of their commitment to excellence that this family-owned winery has won the most awards of any other winery in Texas. Every varietal has won a gold medal, totaling thousands of medals overall, so you can be sure that no matter what you try, you’ll love it.

Check out their online menu and store, and try their canned wines as well as their reds, whites, sparkling, rose, and dessert wines. Located on-site in Bryan are both the Villa B&B and the Vintage House Restaurant, which turn this winery and resort into a true oasis.

As you can see, there’s no shortage of wineries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is especially true for Grapevine, a city located between Dallas and Fort Worth, which was named the Texas Wine Industry headquarters. Here at Hiley Hyundai of Fort Worth, we’re proud to be part of this community, and we love sharing our favorite wineries with you.
