Fort Worth, Texas, has a rich history, and the antique stores in the area are full of objects that remind us of the people and places of the past. We at Hiley Hyundai love to spend a weekend afternoon perusing the treasures at the many unique antique shops. There’s always something special to be found. Read on for some of our favorites.

With wares presented by at least 25 dealers, The Mercantile is bursting with antiques, housewares, home decor, jewelry, and clothing. With a mix of vintage and new objects, the vendors offer a vast variety of items for sale. Home decor vendors fill their booths with all the latest trends: wood signs, candles, mirrors, and furniture straight from the market. Clothing boutiques offer hand-selected fashionable women’s clothing and matching accessories, while jewelry vendors are stocked with unique and affordable pieces for yourself or to give as gifts.

The Texas and Western decor enthusiast can find unique vintage and new pieces to show state pride at home, and some vendors carry Fort Worth-themed clothing and housewares that make an excellent gift for a fellow Fort Worth resident. Children’s and baby clothing and toys are found alongside 1950s-style women’s and children’s clothing. The Mercantile is a great stop around the holidays to find a gift for everyone on your list. When you’ve finished shopping, stop in for lunch at the Tea Room, with a menu featuring soups, salads, entrees, and desserts, including a three-course high tea.

The Mercantile is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Montgomery Street Antique Mall

At over 6,000 square feet, the Montgomery Street Antique Mall is packed floor-to-ceiling with vintage and new finds. Each vendor brings their own unique style and collector’s eye to their booth, with primitive items, midcentury treasures, and vintage housewares and collectibles from the 1970s and 1980s. You can also find old things upcycled into new objects. Once you’ve found the items you like, you pay for everything together at the cashier.

Collectors of all types will love combing through the booths to find the perfect thing. Locals appreciate its well-organized and tidy appearance. Prices vary, but some vendors are ready and willing to deal when they’re on-site, and there are many items at bargain-basement prices. If shopping makes you hungry, you can stop in at the Secret Garden Restaurant for sandwiches, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. With a reservation, you can enjoy high tea with specialty tea blends, finger sandwiches, and scones with clotted cream and jam.

The Montgomery Street Antique Mall is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Old Home Supply House

Appropriately located in the Historic Fairmount neighborhood, Old Home Supply House is Fort Worth’s place for architectural salvage. These antiques tell the history of the buildings they once inhabited. For over 25 years, Old Home Supply House has provided objects to add character to a new building or replace damaged parts of a lovingly restored home. There’s a warehouse full of old doors, rows of lighting fixtures, aisles of antique door hardware, and cast iron tubs, replacement claws, and plumbing fixtures.

Old Home Supply also has a vast selection of salvage decor items, like letters from old signage, religious icons, frames, mirrors, electronics, and much more. Look through the stacks of planters of all sizes and yard art with perfect patina to bring some character to the outdoors. Everything at Old Home Supply is organized by size and type to make it easy to locate an ideal missing piece or browse for something that inspires you.

It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Junker Val

The whimsically named Junker Val is a unique Fort Worth stop for antique jewelry, housewares, clothing, accessories, furniture, and art. From a giant pile of colorful tulle petticoats perfect for a Halloween costume to “the most comfortable chair in the world” (according to Val), this is one stop you don’t want to miss. Val makes it easy to shop all inventory from your phone or computer by listing it all on Facebook and Instagram. Look for her photo in the white top hat!

Items are listed with photos, video, and dimensions if needed, and Val welcomes questions and comments. Once you select what you love, you can pay via Venmo or PayPal and arrange for a no-contact pickup at the store. They’re also happy to arrange to ship. Or you can schedule an appointment to come by and wander the shelves and walls of treasures. Everything you see is for sale at Val’s.

Cross-Eyed Moose Antiques

While some antique stores are prized for their eclectic collections and “something for everyone” vibe, Cross-Eyed Moose Antiques has a bit more of a narrow focus — one that really speaks to the heart of Texas. Located in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, Cross-Eyed Moose has a great collection of Western clothing, boots, home decor, and jewelry that’s got Texas written all over it, figuratively and sometimes literally! In addition, they feature a sizable collection of rustic tables, chairs, and desks.

The discerning shopper may find an exciting piece of taxidermy, a cowboy hat, paintings, jewelry, and even Christmas decorations. A piece of antique Native American jewelry can make for a meaningful gift. People who love the rustic Western style in their home can find old crates, store signage, bottles, and vintage rugs to complete their decor. Movie and television productions have been known to use objects from the Cross-Eyed Moose to ensure an authentic look.

It’s open from Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Monday and Tuesday.
