2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz

The 2024 Hyundai SANTA CRUZ boasts an impressive towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds, making it an ideal choice for those with active lifestyles and a passion for adventure. Whether you tow a small camper, a pair of Jet Skis, or a trailer full of equipment, the SANTA CRUZ has the muscle to handle it. Hyundai makes the SANTA CRUZ with two engine options, and your selection will impact your towing capacity. The lower trims have a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, allowing them to tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. The other option is a 2.5-liter turbo-four engine that enables the SANTA CRUZ to tow up to 5,000 pounds with the right equipment. Towing Features and Technology The SANTA CRUZ has advanced features and technology to make your towing experience seamless. Features such as trailer sway control, a trailer brake controller, and a rearview camera ensure that your load is secure and your journey is safe. The SANTA CRUZ’s boosted towing capacity is due, in part, to the factory-installed trailer brake controller. A trailer brake controller syncs your brakes with the ones on the trailer, so when you press the brake pedal gently to come to a slow, controlled stop, the trailer’s brakes react the same. Conversely, when you apply heavy brake pressure in an emergency, the trailer brake controller applies equal pressure to the trailer’s brakes. The trailer sway control system works with your electronic stability control system. When it senses your trailer beginning to sway, it adjusts brake pressure, engine torque, and throttle to bring your trailer back in line and moving in the intended direction. A rearview camera system helps you hitch up your trailer and allows you to keep an eye on it as you drive. You also get a four- or seven-pin wiring harness. Engine Power and Performance The SANTA CRUZ’s towing prowess stems from its impressive power and torque. The 2.5-liter engine provides the necessary muscle to tackle even the toughest towing challenges while maintaining efficiency for everyday driving. The base 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine has gasoline direct injection and multiport fuel injection technology, and it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. As a result, it puts out 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Be aware that this powertrain will only tow 1,650 pounds without the trailer brake controller. If you plan on hauling more than that, we recommend you add it, as it increases your towing capacity to 3,500 pounds. Top trims use a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. This powertrain produces 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 5,000 pounds. When you’re not towing a trailer, the naturally aspirated SANTA CRUZ gets 22 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. The turbo-four engine rates lower, coming in at 19 mpg around town, 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. Hyundai equips the top SANTA CRUZ trims with its advanced all-wheel-drive traction system, HTRAC, and makes it an option on the lower trims. HTRAC uses advanced electronics to monitor 50 vehicle inputs. It compiles the data over 100 times per second and uses the information to calculate individual wheel torque. As the system detects wheel spin, it sends power to the front or rear axle while applying brake pressure to the left or right wheels, helping your SANTA CRUZ move forward under various road and weather conditions. Versatile Cargo Bed In addition to its towing capabilities, the SANTA CRUZ offers an open-air cargo bed to accommodate your gear and equipment. Whether hauling bikes, kayaks, or camping gear, the SANTA CRUZ provides ample space to carry everything you need for your outdoor adventures. The SANTA CRUZ seamlessly adapts to your sporting and storage needs. The cargo bed has a few upgrades to make hauling gear easy and convenient, and you can pick up aftermarket accessories to customize it for any adventure. Flexible features such as underfloor storage can be used to stow gear away from prying eyes. It also doubles as a cooler, complete with a drain plug, so you can keep your drinks cold for when you return from hiking, biking, rock climbing, or any adventure-filled afternoon. You don’t always have to rough it on your adventures away from home. Add the 115-volt outlet to the bed, and you can bring your favorite home appliances along. Pack that coffee machine for a cup of hot Joe in the morning, and bring the portable generator to run camp lights at night. The possibilities are endless when you have the power. You can upgrade your bed with a lockable tonneau cover. You’ll love the security of knowing your gear is safe while trekking through the woods or fishing out on the lake. This accordion-style cover rolls up and spins out for easy entry and egress.
