May 26th, 2022 by

With summer just around the corner, there’s no better time to plan your fun-in-the-sun activities for the upcoming season. Living in the DFW certainly has its perks, especially in terms of its entertainment and leisure options. We’re surrounded by adventurous nature excursions, scenic landscapes, and the typical amenities of living in a metropolitan area. With so many choices, it can be difficult to narrow down which summer events to try with your loved ones.

Luckily, our team here at Hiley Hyundai of Fort Worth has compiled a list of the top four summer events happening in and around the Fort Worth region. With this list, we’re confident you can enjoy the best of what summer in the DFW can offer.

National Day of the American Cowboy

The first spot on our list is the 16th Annual National Day of the American Cowboy celebration. People of all ages are sure to enjoy themselves at this lively event celebrating the distinct culture of the American Cowboy and the various contributions cowboys and cowgirls of all ethnicities have made throughout history. The event includes a Cowboy Celebration Parade, where members of the community take part in celebrating Fort Worth’s historic connections to cowboy culture.

Events will take place in different locations across the Stockyards Historic District. Visit the Cowtown Coliseum Entertainment Plaza to watch some Chuck Wagon cowboy poetry, a mustache contest, and a championship rodeo. Little ones can take part in more kid-friendly activities such as cow milking, pony rides, face painting, calf roping training, and stick horse races. Enjoy music from talented local artists at the Exchange Main Stage and sample some classic Texas barbecue at the Stockyards Station. This massive event takes place on July 23, 2022, at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Location: Fort Worth Stockyards 131 E. Exchange Avenue

Phone number: 817-626-7921

Rockin’ the River Fort Worth

The next spot on our list is none other than Rockin’ the River Fort Worth, an annual live music event that takes place along the Trinity River. That’s right—you and your family can enjoy the best of Fort Worth’s local music talent while floating along the river on a tube, kayak, or floaty. This event is a summer tradition in Fort Worth and draws in locals and visitors alike to experience a unique concert experience, as the event boasts its status as the only waterfront stage in all of Texas.

If you’re not sure floating down a river is your preferred concert-going experience, don’t fret. The event’s location at the Panther Island Pavilion makes it easy to set up tents, tables, and chairs to enjoy the live music in a more traditional — and much dryer — setting. Children can enjoy splashing around in the river or playing fun outdoor games while adults can sit back and relax at the sounds of local talent and enjoy a wide selection of local food and beer. Rockin’ the River Fort Worth typically takes place every summer from July to August on Saturday evenings.

Location: Panther Island Pavilion 395 Purcey Street

Fort Worth’s Fourth

Our next selection is the annual Fort Worth’s Fourth Independence Day celebration. Just like Rockin’ the River, this event takes place at the Panther Island Pavilion, where thousands of locals gather to celebrate the Fourth of July on the water. Enjoy plenty of live entertainment from local musicians as you float along the Trinity River and enjoy delicious food and drinks brought to you by local vendors, with festival classics like snow cones, funnel cakes, corn dogs, and turkey legs available for purchase.

People of all ages can watch in awe as the 301st Fighter Wing NASJRB F-16 Flyover soars above the Pavilion, instilling pride in our armed forces and our nation’s legacy of liberty for all. It wouldn’t be Independence Day without fireworks and Fort Worth Fourth has the distinct honor of putting on the largest firework display in all of North Texas. This event will take place this summer on Monday, July 4, 2022, with free admission for the public.

Vandergriff Art Festival

The final spot on our list of the top summer events in the Fort Worth area is the Vandergriff Art Festival, located just a short drive east in Arlington, Texas. Serious and casual art lovers alike are sure to enjoy this expansive selection of local talent, with over 150 artists displaying and selling their impressive work. Wander through the festival grounds and admire various works from both emerging and established artists, including ceramic sculptures, drawings, glassware, prints, paintings, jewelry, leather, metalwork, photographs, wood pieces, sculptures, and digital art pieces.

This annual event has historically taken place in March and May, but this year’s festival will happen in June to maximize sunshine. Don’t want to leave your furry friend behind on a beautiful Texas summer day? Not to worry, as you’re allowed to bring a leashed dog to the festival as long as they’re well-behaved and you clean up after them. Make sure you pack your lawn chairs and blankets to lounge with your loved ones and enjoy dining selections from local food vendors.;
