The Hyundai Sonata Vs. The Honda Accord

November 4th, 2021 by

SUVs may be all the rage across the country, but not everyone needs the space or additional cost. For them, a compact or sedan is more than enough to get them to work, to soccer practice, to visit grandma’s house, and more. Two of the nation’s most popular sedans are the Hyundai Sonata and the Honda Accord.

But how do you decide which one is best for your family? The team at Hiley Hyundai has put together a complete comparison of the Hyundai Sonata vs. the Honda Accord, showcasing similarities and differences between the two cars.

Trims2022 Hyundai Sonata

The Hyundai Sonata comes in five separate configurations known as the Sonata Limited, Sonata N Line, Sonata SE, Sonata SEL, and Sonata SEL Plus. These trims have three engine set-ups: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 191 horsepower along with 181 pound-feet of torque (in the SE and SEL models); a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque (in the SEL Plus and Limited Edition); and a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque (in the Hyundai Sonata N Edition.)

The Honda Accord also comes in your choice of five trims: the Accord LX, Sport, Accord Sport Special Edition, Accord EX-L, and Accord Touring Edition. The Accord offers a hybrid engine version, in four configurations, which are known as the Accord Hybrid, Accord Hybrid EX, Accord Hybrid EX-L, and Accord Hybrid Touring. Across those many trims, the Honda Accord has three engine configurations: a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine with 192 horsepower; a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 252 horsepower; and the hybrid engine, with 212 horsepower.

Colors

You will find plenty to choose from when selecting the color of your Hyundai Sonata. The 2022 Sonata is available in eight colors: blue, black, silver, Portofino gray, white, Hampton gray, or red.

The Accord also offers you the choice of eight colors, including several shades of gray and red, plus white and blue.

Interior Features

The interior of the Hyundai Sonata is geared toward comfort and efficiency. Each of the trims except for the Hyundai Sonata SE and SEL come with a standard panoramic sunroof. (The sunroof is available as an upgrade in the SEL.) The driver’s seat is power adjustable in eight ways and the front seats are heated in each trim except for the Sonata SE. Rear seats across the line are in a 60/40 split and can fold down to create more room for storage when you travel.

Depending on which trim you choose, you’ll get a nice-sized touchscreen — either 8 inches or 10.25 inches diagonally, which is available in the SEL Plus and the N line. All infotainment systems are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the Accord, drivers will be able to choose the right spot using a power-adjustable 12-way driver’s seat. Several trims include moon roofs and heated front seats. The Sport, EL, and Hybrid EX-L come with wireless charging for your cell phone.

The Accord offers an 8-inch standard display with a high-resolution touch screen. Several Accord trims include HD Radio and Sirius XM Radio, and across the line, the Accords are also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

On the inside of the Hyundai Sonata, drivers and passengers alike will appreciate the Sonata for its roominess. The key dimensions are:

  • Legroom: 46 inches front, 35 inches rear.

EPA Mileage Estimates and Fuel Capacity

Hyundai has made outstanding progress in improving the fuel efficiency of their cars. The three engine types have received the following EPA fuel economy ratings:
