Several important changes to Hyundai’s vehicle lineup are set to take place for the 2023 model year, but the excitement will really start to pick up later in the year when the 2024 models hit dealership showrooms. Hyundai is giving its popular midsize Palisade crossover a significant refresh and is discontinuing the production of some older vehicle models. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade Gets a Refresh

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

The moment you see the 2023 Palisade in the showroom, you’ll notice it looks different from its predecessors due to Hyundai’s redesigned grille, headlights, and bumper. In addition, a new off-roading trim, the XRT, has been added to the lineup. You can now use the Palisade to pull your camper out of town and along a trail to your favorite campsite.

The inside has undergone various significant changes, including the addition of a new digital gauge cluster. A 12.3-inch standard infotainment display and a redesigned steering wheel have also been added. Overall, the upgrades take inspiration from the recently refreshed Hyundai Tucson.

The Palisade retains its spacious three-row cab, with seating for up to eight people. For the first time, the 2023 model offers you the option of heated third-row seats. Under the hood, Hyundai keeps the 291-horsepower V-6 engine, which combines with an eight-speed automatic transmission to produce solid acceleration.

This powertrain achieves good fuel economy for a midsize crossover, providing 27 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg on city roads. This SUV boasts a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, which is enough to haul a midsize trailer or camper.

Small Updates for the Santa Fe SUV and IONIQ 5 Electric Crossover

Hyundai Kona EV 2023

The Santa Fe is Hyundai’s other popular midsize crossover. Two rows of seating provide more storage space at the rear than the Palisade when all seats are in use. For 2023, the Santa Fe gets a few modest updates, such as easier access to adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring across the trim lineup. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Santa Fe provide standard access to a larger 10.3-inch touch screen and a navigation system. The power liftgate is also available in more trims than in 2022.

The Santa Fe’s cabin remains the same, with over 36 cubic feet of storage space at the rear and adult-friendly seating in both rows. Cloth upholstery comes standard, with available upgrades to leather and heated seats.

Under the hood, the Santa Fe is still powered by a 191-horsepower four-cylinder engine in its standard setup. You can upgrade to a more potent 281-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder for stronger acceleration. Both engine options achieve up to 28 mpg on the highway, although the smaller four-cylinder unit is slightly more efficient on city roads.

The all-electric IONIQ 5 also features some minor updates for 2023. Since the IONIQ 5’s 2022 release proved highly successful, it’s no surprise that Hyundai doesn’t want to tamper too much with a winning recipe. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) models’ driving range has been improved from 256 miles to 266 miles on a full charge. A battery heating system and preconditioning system are also made standard throughout the lineup.

The IONIQ 5 is ideal if you’re looking for room for adult passengers in all seats since there’s plenty of legroom in the front and second rows. You’ll also find over 27 cubic feet of storage space at the rear.

The IONIQ 5’s powertrain is offered in two configurations and with two battery packs. With rear-wheel drive and the standard battery pack, the single motor puts out 168 horsepower. The AWD versions increase output to 225 horsepower. Opting for the extended battery pack with AWD is the highest-performing option, giving you 320 horsepower to play with.

The rest of Hyundai’s lineup for 2023 consists of carryover models. Vehicles such as the compact Tucson crossover, midsize Sonata sedan, and subcompact Venue will continue to offer the great features and performance provided by their 2022 models.

Discontinued Models

In 2023, Hyundai is discontinuing some of its less popular vehicles, including the subcompact Accent sedan and the Veloster hatchback. The automaker feels the need for a hatchback is covered by the more popular Elantra and the small Kona crossover. The success of the IONIQ 5 and the imminent release of more electric vehicles (EVs) have also led to the decision to discontinue the IONIQ hybrid and plug-in hybrid, which served as transitions to Hyundai’s EV rollout.

What’s Coming for the 2024 Model Year?

Later in 2023, the big news will be Hyundai’s release of the IONIQ 6 sedan. This new vehicle will continue the automaker’s push to transform its lineup to offer EV options in all vehicle classes, from compact cars to family-friendly SUVs. The fact that the IONIQ brand is used for the new sedan highlights Hyundai’s success with the IONIQ 5.
