Marine Creek Lake

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) have joined forces to promote fishing and outdoor activities in the Fort Worth area. To do this, they’ve improved fishing conditions in Marine Creek Lake to lure in more anglers. The TPWD sank 24 cubes constructed of a black corrugated drain pipe and PVC pipe, which become covered in algae and attracted fish. Signage indicates where these cubes are submerged, so you can pinpoint some of the best spots for fishing.

Sunfish are particularly abundant in Marine Creek Lake. They’re easily caught with just a hook and worm, so any fisherman can pull in an impressive catch. The lake is also home to a number of bluegill.

Trinity River

The Trinity River is another fishing project that the TRWD has undertaken. Just off the Trinity Trail by the Woodshed Smokehouse (an excellent local spot for tacos and sandwiches), you’ll find a fishing pier that’s perfect for casting your line. You’ll also find a kayak launch nearby, which you can use if you prefer to fish from a more secluded spot on the water. Shore fishing is available here as well as on other sections of the river.

The Trinity River is home to flathead, blue, and channel catfish as well as crappie, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, and redear sunfish. The TWRD and TPWD have stocked the Trinity with trout many times as well, putting in over 400,000 pounds over 33 years.

Greenbriar Park

Greenbriar Park features a stocked fishing pond that’s a popular spot for family outings. The TPWD stocks the lake with channel catfish from late April through the end of October. The lake is typically stocked with trout from late November through February. Anglers may catch sunfish and bass here as well.

The Greenbriar Community Center located within the park hosts an after-school program that offers a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing in the pond, so parents can get their kids involved in this activity early, even if they’re busy at work in the afternoon. In addition to the pond, Greenbriar Park also has a playground, soccer and softball fields, a basketball court, grills, a shelter, and restrooms, so you can easily fill a day here.

Lake Arlington

Lake Arlington is well-stocked with sand bass, white bass, white crappie, Florida largemouth bass, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. You can access the lake in three locations.

Richard Simpson Park sits along Lake Arlington and offers great access to many different types of fishing. You’ll find courtesy docks, an eight-lane boat ramp, and ample shoreline. The park also offers a covered pavilion, restrooms, grills, and a picnic area. Since the cover is limited along the shoreline, early morning and late evening are the best times to fish from the bank. Richard Simpson Park sees a lot of night fishing around the boat ramp as well. Sand bass and catfish are particularly abundant in the lake near Richard Simpson Park. 

Bowman Springs Park sits along the southeastern edge of Lake Arlington. Here, you’ll find an eight-lane boat ramp, floating dock, and fishing pier. The park also features an 11-mile flat-water paddling trail for additional fun on the water. Onshore, you can enjoy a playground, basketball court, picnic area, restrooms, and a short 0.16-mile hiking/biking trail. 

Eugene McCray Park is on the west side of the lake with a two-lane boat ramp. You’ll also find a playground, benches, picnic tables, and grills in the park. This part of the lake is popular for water sports, paddling, and boating besides fishing, so you can find plenty of fun on the water.

Benbrook Lake

Benbrook Lake spans 3,500 acres with 40 miles of shoreline. This lake features a wide variety of fish, including black crappie, white crappie, trout, walleye, catfish, and panfish. Bass are abundant in many varieties as well, including spotted, striped, white, yellow, largemouth, and smallmouth. Your best seasonal bets are bass and crappie in spring, striped bass in early summer, and white bass and catfish through summer. In winter, you’ll need to seek the deeper holding areas, but you can still catch most species in the lake.

If you need to restock, the marina here has fishing gear and gas. You’ll also find canoes, kayaks, fishing boats, and pleasure boats.

Eagle Mountain Lake

Eagle Mountain Lake has a broad surface area of over 8,700 acres. Predominant fish in the lake include channel catfish, spotted bass, largemouth bass, white bass, and crappie. The bluffs and rocky points around the lower end of the lake hold fish well. Around the mid and lower areas of the lake, you’ll find several boathouses and fishing piers offering access to the lake. White crappie tend to congregate around these boathouses.

The upper part of the lake is primarily covered in reed beds. Anglers have great luck with largemouth bass in this area. Throughout the summer, white bass school throughout the entire lake. You can access Eagle Mountain Lake at:

• Eagle Mountain Marina.
• Augies.
• Twin Points Park.
• Harbor One.

All but Harbor One offer courtesy docking, and every location except Pelican Bay has restroom facilities. You can get live bait at the Lakeview Marina and Eagle Mountain Marina. If you’re interested in a multi-day fishing trip, West Bay Marina and Creek Harbor Camp have overnight camping facilities.
